Pettycur Sands, Pettycur Bay, Kinghorn, Burntisland, Fife, KY3 9SB
Please read all briefing notes below some changes to how we normally do things.
Follow the current government guidelines for Covid 19 restrictions in your area.
Please do not arrive before 10am, Please toilet yourself and exercise your dog before arriving at the event/beach. Please wear a face mask at number collection.
NOTE – Forecast is looking like 14 degrees with 64% humidity at race time, hoping it will be cooler on the beach it usually is, with plenty standing water, you may run dogless if you think it is too warm for your dog.

The Rebecca Johnston Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the fastest runner on the beach with Memorial Trophies for Juniors and 2 dog runners
The Happy Go Lucky Dog Company Limited voucher prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each category & fastest newcomer
RULES PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ATTENDING THE EVENT
SPECTATORS & ADDITIONAL PEOPLE All additional people, marshals, friends and family that attend the event must fill in a Track and Trace form, at the foot of this eamil, and this should be handed in at number collection one person should bring your whole groups forms, please wear a face mask at number collection.
FOLLOW THE ONE WAY SYSTEM Please follow the one way system on and off the beach, go on furthest away from the car park and off up the steps. Give other people plenty sapce as you go on and off the beach especaill on the steps, follow marshals instructions.
DONT HANG ABOUT Please leave the beach and event as soon as possible after you finish. If you want to meet up to socialise with friends please meet elsewhere, it is a condition of our permissions that no one lingers longer than necessary. Come – Run – Leave
COURSE the course is on Pettycur Sands out to the Back Rock clockwise round the rock (you will get your feet wet) and back a distance is approx 4.5k.
START The race will 2 x wave starts at ALL MALES at 10:30am and ALL FEMALES at 10.33am, ANY NAUGHTY or NERVOUS DOGS FROM 10.35am* runners in each wave should not come to the start till their indicated time and should spread out on the beach within the 2 start flags (1000m available), each runner should take a space 2 metres apart, if someone else is too close move to the outside, its your responsibiity to find a space or to start behind, a few seconds lost at the start can be gained by not getting fankled or having dogs try to play with each other at the start. Some dogs will do better and have more motivation to move forward/chase if you start behind the pack.
*Individual Starts can be accomodated, for naughty or nervous dogs, if you think this would suit your dog better please let the organiser know ASAP and before Saturday if you want and individual start.
AT THE FINISH You must pass through the finish flags, the human body stops the clock not the dog, the timekeepers must be able to see your number clearly attach it with 4 pins to the front of your T shirt only NOT ON YOUR LEG. Bring pins if you have them to save time at number collection.
Bring your own water and bowl to the finish or go straight back to your vehicle to water your dog.
Please leave the beach and event as soon as possible after you finish.
DOGS must be a year old on the day of the race, bitches in season are not permitted to race and should be kept well away from the start / finish area and not taken on or near the course if brought to the event. Pregnant or nursing bitches are not permitted to race. Dogs must be kept on the lead at all times during the race and should not be run in a slip lead, check/choke chain, head collar, flexi lead or any collar that restricts breathing, if a muzzle is required it should be of the wire greyhound racing style. For your dogs comfort we suggest they run in a suitable harness, some equipment may be available for sale or hire on the day.
Dogs should not be brought to the event if they are coughing or have recently been in contact with infectious disease. It is the owners responsibility to ensure their dog is fit and healthy before racing. If in doubt consult your vet.
For infection control reasons there wil be no communal water for dogs at the finish, a large fresh water container will be available please bring your own bowl for watering your dog or return to your vehicle promptly after you finish.
If your dog needs to cool of after its run please choose a spot in the sea that dosn’t interfere with finishing runners or members of the public. Please leave the beach and event as soon as possible after you finish.
BORROWED DOGS It is presumed that you are running with your own dog. If you must borrow a dog to race with you can only run in a single dog category, you should be familiar with each other, have trained together prior to the race, the handler should be aware of the dogs behavior in a race environment and be responsible for its care throughout the event. You will not be permitted to race with a borrowed dog that you have only just met. Borowed dogs cannot race in the 2 dog category.
INSURANCE The race will be covered by event/public liability insurance but all racers and spectators attend the event and run at their own risk.
CANCELLATION Should the race have to be cancelled or postponed in advance by the organiser decision full refunds will be given to all entrants however should the race have to be cancelled at the last minute for reason beyond the organisers control, in the event of bad weather, making the course too dangerous to run or Covid guidance changing last minute, we are unable to give refunds or transfer entries in these circumstances.
NOTE it is the entrants responsibility to check the race is still on before traveling, the organisers will, post on facebook, and email all entrants if there are any last minute changes – please check your email before travelling.
PARKING There are 2 public car parks in Kinghorn one near the beach at the end of Pettycur Road and the other at the Community center about a 10min warm up jog or 15/20 min walk from the beach, there is also on street parking, please respect the locals and their drivways if parking on street.
TOILETS There are public toilets near the lifeboat station opposite Kinghorn beach and 0.5 of a mile from race start. We will rent a blue tardis chemical toilet and provide 2 toilet tents with buckets for peeing only. DO NOT pee in public as the whole beach and race is overlooked by houses and this may jepordise future events. PLEASE TOILET YOURSELF (local supermarkets are ideal) AND EXERCISE YOUR DOG (other beaches on route) BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE EVENT/BEACH
BEACH Please respect the venue. Leave no litter. Clean up after your dog in all areas and on the course.
FOOD There will be no catering van at this event please bring your own food and flask or use local shops and cafes. A very nice cafe “Carosel” up Pettycur Road and by the additional parking and public toilets. There is also a chip shop in Burntisland.
SAFETY Please READ this race briefing email carefully and follow marshals instructions.
There may be other beach users on the course, please respect them, give way and let them know you are coming.
CONDUCT Please treat other competitors, marshals, other beach users and organisers with respect. No verbal or physical abuse will be tolerated. A dog that attacks, bites or harms another dog or human will be disqualified.
COMPLAINTS Should be made on the day directly to the race director, any complaint regarding an issue that may alter the results due to disqualification or potential timing error must be made within 20 mins of the last runner finishing. You may be asked to put your complaint in writing. A fee of £25 will be taken and refunded if your complaint is upheld.
PRIZEGIVING there will be no prizegiving on site due to Covid restrictions, any prizes not collected on the day will be posted out as soon as possible
RESULTS Official results will be on http://www.racesplitter.com/results , al link will be posted ont eh CSS facebook page, as soon after the event as possible, usually once the race organisers are back in wifi land. NOTE any results will be Provisional untill listed as FINAL on the notes section.
